The black mushroom is a large smooth mushroom which stands about 2' tall. It is easily marked by its glossy black cap and its earthy scent.

Black mushrooms grow in caves, beneath ruins, wine cellars, dank dungeons and other underground places. Black mushrooms can also be found iin forests throughout Ithria. They tend to grow in dark and shadowy areas of the forest where the air is cool and the ground is moist.
The black mushroom is almost entirely edible and is considered quite tasty by most races. It grows in small clusters and can be cultivated to some extent. Many dishes in Khoras use the black mushroom as a spice or main ingredient. A larger version of the black mushroom, the greater sorbus, grows deeper underground and is a staple in the diet of many subterranean creatures.
